Steve was born in Cudahy, Wisconsin. In 1973, his family moved to Cedar Rapids when his father was transferred to Rockwell Collins, now Collins Aerospace. In his high school and college years, he marched with the Dubuque Colts Drum & Bugle Corps and the Cedar Rapids Emerald Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. As Drum Sergeant, he led the Emerald Knights Drumline to hold the title of World Class DCI Champions his last two marching years. Now, Steve is involved in the Iowa Music and Arts Association; in addition, he drums in a group titled Fun Drumming.
Steve attended college at the University of Northern Iowa and after graduation in 1990, he worked at Norwest Bank until 1991. Steve then founded Mickelson Financial, Inc. in 1991, and in 2005 founded Stonefield Investment Advisory, Inc. with two other business partners. In 2018, Steve’s tremendous personal and professional growth led him to branch off to create Red Cedar Advisory, Inc., and in June of 2021, Steve celebrated 30 years as a Registered Investment Advisor.
He and his wife, Theresa, reside in Cedar Rapids and together they have two adult daughters. Steve stays active in his church, enjoys hanging out on his front porch, and referees soccer games at the local sports complex. He truly cherishes time spent with his family and friends.

Theresa is an Iowan through and through! She studied chemical engineering at the University of Iowa, raised two daughters, and has been married to her husband, Steve, since 1992. She enjoys picnics, Kernels baseball games where she can cheer and shout “CHARGE!”, cooking/baking, and loving on others.
Theresa has worked in the financial industry for over 30 years. She is the Metro-wide Rotary Club President and also serves as an Assistant District Governor for Rotary Club #5970. In addition, she has served as the 2019-2020 District 19 Director for Toastmasters International. Theresa is a 2019-2020 Leadership for Five Seasons alum, a John Maxwell certified coach, piano teacher, professional speaker, and a Real Colors certified instructor. Theresa has now been teaching piano lessons for over 35 years and loves instructing both kids and adults.
Faith is her guiding light. She has completed a book titled, “The Crushing”, written in tandem with her daughter, Audrey, to help others in the midst of mental crisis. Remember, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you can never see the shadow” -Helen Keller.

Alexandra (Lex) graduated from Iowa State University in 2017 with degrees in both Marketing and International Business, along with a minor in Spanish. During her time in college, she spent a semester studying abroad in Rome, Italy. Therefore, she speaks a bit of Italian! While in college she was the ISUCF’V’MB Color Guard Captain, KURE’s Marketing Director, and a founding member of the Collegiate Women in Business club on campus.
Post graduation, Lex transitioned to Denver, Colorado where she resided for over 5 years. She worked for Charles Schwab during that time in a myriad of positions as she moved up the ladder, all the while continuing her interest in women’s business groups. This culminated in her volunteering on the Board of Directors for the Denver chapter of Women in ETFs from 2020-2022. She spent much of her time working on University Outreach with the local universities.
Lex has a passion for giving back to the community, specifically when it comes to growing financial literacy in underserved groups and working with local color guards. She loves to garden, and spend time outside with her miniature long-haired dachshund, Rosie. She also has a cat, Beatrix, who loves to snuggle while Lex reads her Bible, continuing to grow in her faith life.
In addition to Lex’s financial licenses, she is enrolled in an MBA program with Quantic School of Business and Technology, and is set to graduate in July 2023. Lex is a certified Gallup Strengths Coach as well. She is a member of Toastmasters, an avid participant of the Economic Alliance, and takes part in the local Czech Village.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Kate spent half of her life overseas in Europe. After years of traveling, and what can only be attributed as an act of God, she landed in her father’s native home state of Iowa in 2006. In 2014, she met and married the love of her life, Brad. They now reside in Marion, and together, they have four beautiful children.
Kate’s life story is a true testimony of God’s grace and mercy, which is why she continues to help others in need during her time outside of Red Cedar. She is a devoted wife, mother and church member with a heart for giving back to the community. She recently completed a three-year position mentoring mothers with DHS involvement in their lives. Kate guest speaks at numerous events and schools around the area sharing how she has overcome adversity in her life. She also has a passion for holistic healing and uses that to educate others on essential oil safety and usage, as well as natural supplementation and alternative methods for family wellness. Kate is currently serving on the Downtowners Toastmasters Club #684 executive board as Sergeant at Arms, and is working on the Pathways program towards her completion on Dynamic Leadership.
In 2018, Audrey graduated with a Marketing degree from Mount Mercy University. Since her time in college, she has spent time traveling parts of Europe and Israel, and explored several avenues of work, such as childcare teaching and the service industry. She feels very blessed to have ended her career search right here at Red Cedar where she is able to use her degree.
Audrey serves on her Toastmasters executive board as Public Relations Officer, she also serves on the Czech Heritage Foundation board as Retail Store co-chair, and honorably represents as Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa 2022-2023! She is very passionate about her heritage and loves learning about the Czech-Slovak culture.
Beyond work, Audrey enjoys spending her free time in fellowship with friends, family, and her two cats: Chevelle and Gus. She loves gardening, being out on the water, stargazing, and going on runs through her neighborhood. Although Audrey stays active, she does love spending time in her Bible with a cup of joe. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” -Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
